I spoke with a popiah stall owner before. He was from the old Lakeview hawker center, and till now it's my fav popiah. Not that it's the best but I still like his popiah most.
He shared, why some hawkers are 'arrogant' is because when they get too busy, speed is essential. So they have no time to talk, nor do they have so called energy to be friendly. They just want to get things done fast.
So if we look at their point, it may explain their arrogance.
