I guess youre right more than 2' depth MH, less than 2' T5's. The thing of it is is that mine is exactly 2' and because the cost (initial set up, electricity & replacement bulbs) is alot higher I'm trying to get by with T5's.
However if even the sps you put on top is not getting the correct coloration then I suppose T5's probabaly wont do for me either.
Question. Would it make a difference if you had more T5's?

i would say...definately, it will allow for better colouration for those at the top but those at the bottom..i wont be too sure...and forgot to mention one thing about T5, do change your blubs often ya? i changed some of my 9 month old blubs and i do much more improvement in the colouration...previously they start to become brown >.< ...seems that T5 loses their intensity quite quickly
so u can give it a try...since T5 penetration is around 2ft and with a sand bed, yours would be some what lesser then that
