My red had the same problem last week. It wouldn't dive and only swam at the water surface with its back above the water for a couple of days.
I dosed with Epsom salt and cured it in less than 24 hours. I believe the Epsom salt enabled the trapped air to be released due to the property of the substance as a laxative.
