For small setups(1ft - 2 feet ft), you can look at shell dwellers (Neolamprologus) or rock dwellers (Altos)
Its a bit confusing at start but Google and AF helped me a lot when i just started out. If you have time, take up Bro Birchardi offer and you will probably save yourself a lot of time researching on the fishes.
