Swee‼️
That is one lucky red to have a nice home. Thanks for sharing👍 |
Awesome combination. Eye opener.
|
Wow! Very nice tank.
What is the dimension of yr tank and how long do you need to settle yr planted tank before adding yr arowana. |
Thank you everyone.

Really stunning:D

The Staurogyne repens are thriving, well done!
Do i see some Bolbitis at the bottom left corner of the tank? |
Good eyes. Right on both counts. Have to count my blessings that my place is breezy and I can get temp below 28 celcius with just 2 fans and no chiller. With current weather 25+ to 26+ is normal. The real test comes when the hot months starts. Crossing my fingers.

Breathtaking view of your awesome setup. :)
|
very nice :) anymore tankmates going in?
|
beautiful setup! and thats a cute little fella.
|
Awesome setup. Last time RTG, now red! :)
|
very beautiful setup..how's the diet for your red arowana?
|
Thank you all.
Fortunately, arowana prices have come down significantly since I bought the RTG. This red is fed on Hikari pellets and the pellets bought from the farm where got him. But it is still trying to eat my SAEs and Starlight Bristlenose. ~ Sent from Nexus 5 via Tapatalk ~ |
W:eek:W! Very nice, clean and huge setup. Very clear picture too. Thumbs Up. :)
|
awesome tank ... happy red keeping
|
Very nice looking setup! Any updates on this tank and aro? :)
|
One of the best planted Aro tank I have seen, excited to see the update!
Thx bro vinz for the sharing |
beautiful & awesome set-up!:)
|
Thanks guys.
Layout and plants not much change, but experiencing some algae problems. I think I've figure out the cause, but it'll take a few weeks to resolve. The arowana is easier to mange. LOL. It developed a PLJ, but otherwise is ok. Cheeks started to "rust" a few months ago and the scales are just starting to rim with red. Some how the camera does not capture the red rims. I guess its a matter of lighting and angle. Anyway, less words, more photos. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a0...CLU=w1340-h563 https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/Fr...5Z0=w1340-h563 https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/Ie...x64=w1340-h563 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Ez...xMI=w1340-h563 https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/iZ...2DI=w1340-h563 |
Originally I was able to link photos in the post above, but looks like Google has expired the links. I'll have to find a way to host the photos without signing up for a new image host site. will update once I do.

Dude that is gorgeous!
|
Here's an update on the fish. Full tank pics/videos only after I have it lush again.
This video is taken with an action camera mounted inside the tank. So this is the view from inside the tank. The camera is a Molify Yocam, a GoPro like action camera. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QqtydgCymU (Watch at YouTube for HD version)

Hi Bro
Very positive development in my view - I like the darkish base and the orangy rims which are pretty neat and even. Am sure the colouration will continue to improve. Hope for more updates from you ! Cheerz |

Very nice development. Your tank looks really clean and plants flourishing too.
What's your regime for keeping algae away. When I did my aro planted (twice), it was a constant battle with algae. Especially bba |
Thanks Elimmel.
To reduce algae, make sure plants get all they need for healthy growth. What's needed depends on how much light they are getting. Second are algae eaters. Two types needed: the nibblers and the scrapers. I use SAE for nibblers. Many people say they get fat, lazy and stop eating algae, but mine don't get fed in my tank, etc crumbs from the big guy's meals. So they have no choice but continue to work hard and graze on algae. For scrapers, I use snails. Freshwater abalone (Septaria porcellana) specifically as they are flat and very hard to remove once alarmed. As soon as they are touched, they lockdown and can't be moved or picked up. But they only clean hard surfaces, not leaves. I've had green water, hair algae and BGA before, but all solved with treatment, cleaning and water change. Only Green dust algae (the green stuff that grows like a dusty coast on glass and hard surfaces) can't be solved. No solutions found (not even the known overseas gurus) except weekly cleaning and algae eaters. But seems related to Nitrate levels. When my nitrate drop to zero due to planting Ah Pek Plant, GDA was almost zero. Other then that episode with APP, my tank is always has high NO3, so no choice, I have to go high light with lots of plants to suck it all up. Due to bad experience with fish death from big water change, and also to conserve water, I only change 20% weekly. BBA is usually due to insufficient CO2. ~ Sent from Moto X Style via Tapatalk ~ |
Thanks Vinz.
I had good results against GDA by upping phosphates. I remember reading some article (maybe Tom Barr) that nitrates and phosphates are best maintained at a ratio of 10:1. So if we have high nitrates, we need to supplement phosphates. |
bro , beautiful tank set up & Aro too
|
Nice update aro looking good. :)

Hi Bro Vinz,
wanted to ask, any updates on your tank? Recently been very quiet in the hobby and honestly not much left in me to buy more livestock, but still very passionate about it, as such thinking of doing a 7 x 3 x 3 planter! hahahaha |
I went through a long period fighting some plant growth and algae issues... Only beat it a few months ago. Results below.
