Need help with breeding Discus again

Hi all discus bros,

Happy to share that my two newly bought discus have spawned for the first time today, in our 3-feet planted community tank! :D

The Tank

Pigeon Blood (should be the Father)

Snow White (should be the Mother)
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ps80418b8b.jpg

Now I'm thinking what I should do if I decide to breed them, since for my previous couple (one died after hard knocks on his head after got frightened during water change), the eggs always disappear after one or two days (eaten up?).

Right now, I have mainly two tanks, this 3-feet tank and a newly (but cycled) 2-feet tank as the grow-out tank for my 3 smaller discus. I was hoping to grow out these three discus so that they will not be constantly bullied by those two bigger ones in the 3-feet tank.

The Grow-Out Tank

So I need your advices on what I could do if I wish to help the couple hatch their eggs. I am thinking not to disturb the couple so is it feasible to shift some of the fishes in the community tank to the grow-out tank, and let the couple have some me-think in the planted tank? If so, what are the fishes should I shift? Here is the list:

- 3 x SAE
- 2 x Cory
- 2 x Gaara
- 2 x Chain Loach
- 3 x Mollies/Swordtail
- 1 x Betta

Thanks!

PS: By the way, I have about 7 to 8 mollies/swordtails to give away (used them for cycling of the grow-out tank). I hope the new owner will have them as pets and not as feeders. PM me if you are interested. :)

PS #2: I started a new thread since the situation mentioned in the previous thread is different from this. :o

Bro rest of the fishes can take out...
Leave the couple inside. Maybe leave 1 or 2 algae cleaners inside.

Now is to wait if they really paired up... Until their eggs hatch then you will know.
In the meantime try to reduce the water current if any...discus like to be in calm waters as much as they could.

By the way this is a good news bro.
Your water conditions are right for breeding...

Swap their tanks. Pair in 2ft and 3smaller in 3ft.

Thanks for the tips; I will lower the water current in the 2-feet tank. The flow in the 3-feet tank is already quite low at the moment.

Indeed, will see if they are good parents when the eggs hatch. :)

Thanks for the advice. Will consider the swap but I should only swap after the eggs are hatched right? Will I cause stress to the parents by swapping?

Anyway, was just told that a PB/non-PB cross will result in heavily peppered fries... Now not sure whether to continue breeding them. Will still monitor to see if the eggs will hatch or not.

Swop them now!! Smaller tanks means they will find their fries more easily. Bigger volume of water(bugger tank) will grow them up faster.

Both the snow white and pigeon are dominant gene, you should get some whites with stress bars and etc..

Thanks for the heads-up! Glad to know both are of dominant genes! Then gonna work harder on the spawn~ :)

For the grow-up part, I'm worried that the 3-feet tank may not be suitable for this purpose since it will be harder to clean the bottom from the leftover beefheart...

Anyway I can move the couple to the 2-feet tank, but how do I move the eggs? Just bring the whole DW over?

Oh yah, my bad. If you didn't mention it I wont take a second look at the picture where the eggs are.

If thats the case, now no choice already. Just let them be and see what happens next

Okay that's what I'm doing now; observing how things go first. So far both parents are still diligently looking after the eggs.
