2. Plants: windelov fern, java fern, medium size anubias, and some unknown moss.
3. currently just got the fishes. 10 cardinal, 10 black tetras, 3 albino cories and 10 serpae tetras
4. had cycled the tank with some guppy culls with 3 of my self bred g2 male wild guppies. (had gotten g1 from the drain).

Think it's a bit over crowded. What filtration you using?

tuang 14-06-2011 07:24 PM

have only a sponge filter set up.
trying to go as natural as possible.

Having a sponge filter will not make it even more natural. You need a better filter for the amount of livestock in there. Yes it is also overstocked for a 1.5

Pls use proper filtration for your tank. The sponge bubble filter looks abit awful when in "planted" tank. Hope no offence taken, just my opinion

Bro, its really too over-populated.. Even if you use a 3L media canister (e.g 2213), you will need to sponges every month. 30 tetras and 3 cories will cause you super high nitrate in the long run. Moreover, you have added too many livestocks at a time. You only cycled with 3 guppies, and you added 33 new fishes. Your filter may not take the bioload, ammonia will shoot up high within 1-2 days, there may not be enough BB to break down your ammonia. Cories will also stir the sand to cause more ammonia spike. Your sponge filter will be overloaded in less than 1 wk.

Just my 2 cents.

You are likely to experience some dead fishes soon. Way too much bioload for a sponge filter, unless u regularly do water change
