Best method to add calcium in shrimp tank?
been trying to maintain just normal fire red shrimps but not much success.
tank is 1 ft and in air con room only and only downoi and seaweed ricchia. some sand and lda soil and simple water pump and hanging filer. was told need add calcium. any advice as to best way to add in 1 ft tank and what is recommendation , and freq of wc, once per wk can? thnks.:) |
I use the Nutrafin African Cichlid conditioner to increase my gH, it has calcium in it. Once a week during water change to maintain the tds level in my shrimp tanks. It’s cheaper.

do u add coral chips as well, or white sand, which also raise my ph ? yes, was recommended this as well. bght 1 bot and just started adding 5 ml in my 1 ft tank, enough right? can advise on ideal ph for shrimp tank pl? i feed mulberry leaves, was told good for colors. |
For Neo like fire red can keep in a wider range of pH values so can add coral chips. I’m keeping PRL and Pintos so have to get the pH values low. No coral chips for me. I use deionised water for water change and add minerals after that to maintain the tds.
For dosing have to add slowly to raise the tds to the value you want. Do you have a tds meter? Try not to raise it too quickly, your shrimps may get a shock. |
Just maintain TDS around 130 can already. No need to worry about calcium. Shrimp food should hv enough calcium.

I keep my tds around 110 only. Used to be less than 100 but slowly raised it upwards.

Yes, they are hardy and I have kept them in a wide range of pH values
