THIS IS MANCHESTER UNITED #143 (2019/20) - Rebuilding The Team!

THIS is MANCHESTER UNITED thread

It is Manchester United, Man Utd or simply UNITED

Keep the topics to Manchester United and our next opponents...or anything newsworthy related to football.

We will focus on positive support for our club and refrain from negative remarks on our rivals.

Name calling, taunting on other teams are frowned upon.

All are welcome in this thread

loveikan 20-10-2019 07:54 PM

Another battle against Liverpool.

Not going to be easy but our lads need to fight for each other no matter who we are facing or regardless the number of injured players that we have.

KeeHuat 20-10-2019 11:57 PM

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Young, Tuanzebe, Lindelof, Maguire, Fred, Pereira, McTominay, James, Rashford.

Subs: Romero, Mata, Martial, Rojo, Greenwood, Garner, Williams

Liang_Zai 21-10-2019 01:17 AM

Lindeloef nearly cost us the equalizer

BBP604 21-10-2019 01:26 AM

3-5-2 formation
An exciting 1st half so far
Time to replace fred in 2nd half.
Gonna mark their counter.
Pressure on at the front.
GGMU.

Liang_Zai 21-10-2019 02:10 AM

2times in the game james got the chance to through pass the ball to rashford yet he refuse

Liang_Zai 21-10-2019 02:24 AM

Have to fully agree that AM was merely a spectator in the game. Yet again we see the poor foresight of Ole in his substitution.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the goal that MR scored as VAR decided that it was up to the ref to decide if Origi was intentionally fouled. Had Origi just gone down in not a spectacular manner he may have won the foul.
But he tried to play act and that was his mistake.
Mane handled the ball, accidental or otherwise, and if that led to a goal, VAR had been VERY VERY clear that goal is NOT ALLOWED!!!!!
Don't see why Klopp was so unhappy about it.

Liang_Zai 21-10-2019 02:34 AM

Seriously i really think its enough ole make too many mistake since taking over.u saw james incident where he can through pass on goal for rashford??2times yet he refused

KeeHuat 21-10-2019 02:41 AM

At least there was effort from the players today. A mistake from Rojo and Young for the goal.

lenghan 21-10-2019 02:42 AM

Disappointing for the fans from 3 points to just one point, but at least we kept our record against Klopp who remained winless at OT.

It really started with Pereira. He did not go out and stop Robertson but took a breather and just stayed in the box. Undone all the good and hard work he has done prior. Running his lungs out. And of course Rojo should have cut the ball out. Or Young should be better trained as a defender after playing in that position for so long

Oh well. Let’s just hope they have the same spirit for the games to come and not only for the big games

moscowblue 21-10-2019 09:02 AM

The method is definitely wrong.
Scored a goal and regress, go into defending at home ground.

It is indeed 2 points lost.

Outstanding players, not player

James, AP, SM and also Fred

Bisssaka at the end also no more steam to run and defend that cross from Robertson.

We knew the game plan of Liverpool is to bomb forward with their 2 wing backs, and we allowed them to cross like a training match in the end.

This is really unacceptable.

Hope SAF can advise OGS to kill the game United's way i.e. Score more goals and not rely on the single goal and defend. We had them by the neck and we let it go.

BBP604 21-10-2019 09:14 AM

I felt that fred is not effective.
He had some actions on the field and lost possesions many times.
Got 1 good chance at goal but he blew it.
We had a good game at 1st half but lost the plot in the 2nd.
Not able to contain their fast counter attack.
Our midfielders not able to control the pace of the game.
We were seen defending in the last 20mins.

I don’t agree with you. In my opinion this is a world of difference from all the matches that we have played this season, apart from Chelsea of course. Can you even imagine the scoreline if we played like how we played against Newcastle?

Yes they noticeably tired towards the end. But at least there is spirit

Spirit is good I agree, but the application is wrong.
We scored, played defending, hoping to hold out and we draw.

Soak and strike is ok if your midfield and defence is very very strong.
Look at the bench, there is no midfield to take over the tired legs of SM, Fred, AP.

James already knocked so many times and looked very very tired, but we replaced Rashford instead.

We draw games in the 2nd half, even though OGS said our fitness improved?
Wolves, Arsenal.....we were leading going into 1/2 time, but we never finished them off.

End of the day, we knew they will come at us, but we did not go and get the 2nd cushion goal we needed. And when they scored, we suddenly looked like the ones that will concede the 2nd goal.

Don't get me wrong, this game is played in the right attitude, but come next week when we play Norwich, can we play like that again?

lenghan 21-10-2019 02:14 PM

Football is always so full of "opinions"
When the team does not get their results, they will blame the wind, the grass, the ref, the VAR, the opponents parking buses, etc etc. But when they win, everything was superb, even if their players dived to earn a last min penalty with the slightest of touch.
That's football. We are fully aware of our own position, and as long as the lads give their all, that is all we as supporters are asking for....haha...once in a while with some "divine interventions"

One thing for sure, at least we did not "contribute" to their title march.

:D

Hahahaha ...... the meltdown was hilarious ......

the so called " foul " was ridiculous .....
they expected VAR to overturn referee's decision when the referee is so near to the incident and didn't call a foul ....
it was such a subjective call where some will say foul, some say no and yet, they expect VAR to side their call .......

serious ?

if there's anything that contributed to the flow of the game, it is the number of fouls they committed which means the game needs to be stopped and pull back

loveikan 21-10-2019 06:30 PM

A much improved performances let down by poor defending allowing Pools to equalize.

Hope Pierrera will learn from this game too.
He did made some poor decisions, should have pass the ball to teammates who are in a better position instead of shooting

We must continue to build on after a spirited fight against Pools. game.

lenghan 21-10-2019 07:41 PM

So that there SHOULD NOT be any grumbling....the rules for VAR

What will the VAR review?
- Goal/no goal
- Penalty/no penalty
- Direct red card (not second yellow card/caution)
- Mistaken identity (when the referee cautions or sends off the wrong player)

What will it not review?
- Any yellow card (including second yellow card leading to red)
- Any free kick offence outside the box (other than red card offence)

Can a player or manager request a review?
No, all incidents are automatically checked by the VAR.

That VAR even bothered to accommodate Liverpool players for the "foul" leading to the goal should be viewed as a bonus to them

loveikan 22-10-2019 09:16 AM

We should sign him but will be very ex.

Maddison: “Cristiano’s always been a big figure. I used to support United back when he was a main figure of the team. How he carried himself on the pitch and off the pitch – he was the swag man!”

The VAR worked for us for Mane's handball goal.

In fact the VAR took the joy out of the game.

Instead of unbridle explosion of joy at the goal we were made to hold our breath for VAR's review and then after the confirmation we can just let out a "Yeah" as a sign of relief...so in a way u can say it kind of took something out of the game :)

lenghan 25-10-2019 02:32 AM

Watching an extremely boring 30mins against Partizan.
Totally lack creativity with almost every other passes a backward pass or square pass.
Give it another 15 mins will stop watching

lenghan 25-10-2019 02:48 AM

Only positive is the run by Brandon Williams that drew a penalty and converted by AM towards end of first half
Other then this moment, we were totally clueless in attacking football.
And the penalty conversion was the only shot on target for the first half

lenghan 25-10-2019 08:36 AM

2nd half was just as bad for us whereby we did not managed to even get a single shot on target nor any attempts on goal (probably one). Had the opposition been more clinical, they would have scored at least 2 goals.
Nevertheless our first away victory since beating PSG

moscowblue 25-10-2019 04:11 PM

take one step forward and three steps backwards

Played ugly yet still got a win.

But really must get in to one or two experienced player during the Jan window....short term also good.

With this current crop of players, honestly think they would struggle to get to even top 10. So many players repeatedly reporting to the treatment room tells me that it is not just physical issue, but attitude too.
Shaw is an example, like forever in treatment room and he most certainly have become our MC King (taking over Jones)
To be injured so often means that these players are not physically conditioned or our fitness coach is driving them to the wall, but I would believe it is the former, and that they may not have the pride to play

lenghan 26-10-2019 06:00 AM

OMG.......Leicester City created PL history for an away victory over a helpless Southampton team by 9-0
Even at HT leading 5-0 they never slowed down and scored their last goal in the dying mins of extra time

loveikan 26-10-2019 07:18 AM

Yeah.....an amazing scoreline!

That is the way we would love to watch our beloved team plays all the time. No "easing" off when leading. No such attitude as "protecting the lead" and going defensive but be on offensive even up to the very last minute of play even if still winning comfortably. OGS or the next manager should instill this kind of discipline to the lads instead of adopting the "bus parking" attitude

Certainly prefer to retain OGS then get someone who probably still has his heart with Liverpool.

Simply lack of creativity and another striker in our team.

Next away match vs Norwich.
AM is back taking no.9 role.
Flanked by MR and DJ on both sides.
Waiting to watch.
