How to know when to WC

How u know when to do WC of tanks?

Some hobbyists swear by smell of water.

Professional ones will test nitrate levels and decide.

I test water TDS meter. Just dip TDS meter into water and check reading. If high TDS then time to WC. Also will let me know how much to change.

I guess there isn't any hard and fast rule of when to wc.
I guess too that each individual hobbylist will hv their own wc regime.

everyday I draw out 2 pails of tank water to water my plants and replace with fresh tap water, weekly 70% wc

my tank is a 422 with 3 xbs and 3 rtgs + a ff + tiger and a black wolf

Btw, I no professional. I've nvr used any testing equipment:D:D:D

Wow daily WC very good for yr fishes and good use of used tank water to fertilize yr plants, no waste of water.

High bioload will need more frequent WC. I got 4 ft tank with 9 to 10 medium size channa inside. Lazy to WC everyday, so rely on TDS meter to tell me to WC.

wc every three days, maximum stretched to four days otherwise I'll get very uncomfortable psychologically....

I wc once a week, 30%.

I will test for Ph, Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and wc around 40% per week. If the nitrate is high, I will wc twice a week.

Wow ! Must have taken a bit of time to do all the tests but that's very good to keep tip top water parameters. Thumbs up to you! But I think most will do WC routinely without any tests. To them, a bit of hastle to do tests. If you keep expensive fishes, your way is the right way to decide on WC. Keep it up!

Change it before you need to.

Still ok. Enjoying it as a hobby. If never do will feel weird. It is good to test the parameters and do the necessary to improve the water. Especially for new and small tanks.

Also depends what fish you keep.
