Probably because the Board does not back Ole anymore after his HM failure. Looking likely they are soon ending Ole's reign as the manager?

And to now have Chris Smalling sold to AS Roma when we are in dire need for CB.
CS is certainly a better defender then HM or VL.
VL surely can't even be put into the same equation. yet we sell CS without replacement.
Truly strange Board at OT!!!!

TELLES SIGNS FOR UNITED

Manchester United is delighted to confirm the arrival of Alex Telles from FC Porto. The defender has signed a four-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year.

Telles, 27, is a full international with Brazil and an experienced player across Europe, having played in the UEFA Champions League for many years.
Over the past five seasons with FC Porto, he has scored 26 goals and registered more than 50 assists.

He has won league titles in Portugal, and also in Turkey where he played for Galatasaray.

Alex Telles said: “To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour. You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.

“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to pull on the famous shirt.”

So 5 signings

Alex Telles - Porto, leftback
Willy Kambwala - Sochaux, centreback (16 years old and already at 1.92m)
Amad Traore - Atalanta, right winger (coming over in January 2021)
Edinson Cavani, centre forward
Facundo Pellistri - Penarol, winger

Still many deadwood around mostly thanks to Woody for extending their contracts with pay rise and not kicking the ball almost whole season (Jones and Rojo). No other clubs (not even the championship clubs) are keen to even negotiate loan deals (maybe sharing salaries?)

I don't know who is the person who suggested extending all the deadwood players and giving them a high pay compared to what other clubs will pay for a similar type of player with the same standard of performance.

Of all the deadwood players, only Smalling has gone to Roma on loan and played well enough to secure his future. Good luck to him.

Woody being a businessman is rather stupid to extend all the deadwood players and pay them too high. Even though he thought to sell them off later and not let them go for free with their contracts ending, he should not pay them so much that other clubs will not afford them.

Ozil, Bale (before he moved to Spurs) were some who were paid so high they were contented to sit, not play because their managers didn't select them and get paid.

Well we got Cavani, but 5 years too late.

Telles is the only player who may play in the 1st team regularly.

With this team going in after the international break, I think we are not going to be above 4th place in this season.

If we have beaten Spurs we might not have signed anymore players as Woody might have thought everything was fine. And he would still be trying to low-ball Porto for Telles

lenghan 07-10-2020 01:32 AM

The reason we did not bring in any CB is because we have too many available and were unable to off-load those deadwood (Rojo and Jones) all thanks to "someone" whom pushed for their 3-year extension contracts.
And Chris Smalling remembered the way he was pushed aside and loaned out refused to stay even though Ole asked him. Instead he pushed for being sold to AS Roma which ultimately happened at almost the 11th hour.
Our failure to sign Sancho was cos Woody thought he could outsmart the Germans by waiting till almost bid close hours. thinking the Germans would give in. Most clubs are now aware of Woody's style of negotiating and are not impressed
