Guidelines to avatars, pictures, links, video clips

http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=213967

As discussed on the above thread, the guidelines on avatars, pictures, links and video clips will be implemented with immediate effect.

"The mis- use of avatars, hotlinking and attachments would constitute the use of, or reference to content that is religiously, ethnically or culturally offensive (or sensitive). This would include, though not limited to- pornography, explicit content of sexual orientation; or content that might discriminate against, and therefore could potentially create tension amongst different religious, ethnic and cultural groups."

For infringements of these guidelines, we will

on the first infringement, we will reset ur reps to zero as a warning.

on the second infringement, we will take away ur privilege to use any avatars and you will have ur title changed to " restricted user " to indicate ur privileges have been taken away. This will be for a minimum of 60 days and 20 rep points.

on the third infringement, we will ban ur account.

If you feel that you may be pushing the limit in ur choice of pictures or avatars, we suggest you err on the side of caution and not put them up to avoid any offence to other parties and unhappiness when we take action against you.

If you see your avatar removed and your points reset to zero, this just means that your avatar has gone beyond our limit. Do not start another thread to claim ignorance and ask why again.

I will suggest that those avatars in very suggestive poses and those that focus on just the women's breasts be removed so that you will not invite any complaints against your avatar.

Boss, I suggest there should be a deadline so to be fair to all members.

Last Tuesday, I started the thread to give all some breathing space and a deadline of last Friday. Please read the thread I linked on the first post. Now you want another deadline to be fair to all members. Then those members never read, ignorant, long time never come in must give another set of deadline again ? so as to be more fair than others ? C'mon the previous thread asking for all to give their final say is already one week old. How long more then is fair ? 2007 ?

Deadline was already given until last Fri lah, that was the cut-off date for those pple to change if they think their avatars cldn't make the cut.

But as usual lah, will still have pple feigning ignorance claiming that they never read again.

i disagree, some pple may really never read the thread. We regulars that come into AF everyday may feel like AF is very small as in we know the different forums and threads. But for some pple that log in like 1-2 times a week will only read the threads that they interested in like marine and Luohan or wat. And the other forums and threads are alien to them, they feel AF is a big forum feeling. Thats y this kinda of thing are sure to be missed by them.

So cannot say them feigning innocence mah.

Just saying my views huh, not saying anyone is wrong.

So is it admin or mod's fault if they dun read? Just like wat admin here said, are you prepared to PM 10,000 members here just to make sure they do?

Cite you one clear cut example, if you are caught trying to smuggle heroin into Singapore, can you feign ignorance and tell the officers that you din read up on Singapore's laws so can be excused from that?

If u state out this point. I just tell you my view. You may agree or disagree my its just my view. No offense to any bro here.

A lot of bros also use these kinda of sexy pictures as avatars. Some of these bros are actively involved in Arofanatics. Some not so oftenly. Suddenly a rule was introduced and state this kind of avatars are not allowed here. Those active bros will get the information quickly and those not active bros will not get the message. So in the end the inactive group suffered.

"why the need to put those sexy n expose avatar in the fish forum leh......to boost oneself ego issit??"
Pertaining to this, i do not know coz i dun post this kinda of pics. But i guess its just for fun since most of us are brothers here so its ok until the rule came in of coz.

then claim nv read the sticky in the chat forums n cry foul for the loss of pts??
not all pple cry foul or complain or wat. Some just confuse y suddenly kosong rep mah.

Bro jwtan, i am not saying u r wrong. Yes u did the right thing as things were getting a bit out of hand. Just 1 2 express by views on this issue. :) Cheers.

Eh no offense to any1 leh.

If I get everyone right, the problem is not about the new rules. It is more like whether the members know about the new rules(datelines, etc).

I know they are there in the threads but given the benefit of the doubt, if I may propose/suggest, perhaps if AF can send a mass email to all members informing them about such new rulings. MAybe for future changes to rules?

But then I don't remember ever receiving any email from AF apart from the initial one when I first joined the forum. It will also be good if some of these rules are together with the email sent to new members. I was really blur when I first joined. I still am blur. Not that I did not want to read but its really like an information overload. Because when you first join, you'll probably be reading on the fish stuff etc.

Just wondering if this can be adopted as part of the practice. Again, just a suggestion.

Don't be angry with me if it is not feasible.

It is the responsibility of the members to read the rules of any forums or websites that they want to visit and abide by them. May I respectfully remind all that when you signed in to register at this website, you agree to abide by all our rules and regulations before you can even proceed with your registration. The thread garnering response and letting members have their final say was there for a week until it went without response for two days before we implement the guidelines. It is not our responsibility to mass email or mass private message everyone in here. And I am sure our members do not need to be spoonfed in this manner. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Inevitably ignorance will always be used as an excuse. " I am new, I long time never log in, etc etc. " If we let these excuses be, then there's no point in implementing guidelines, cos somehow someone will abuse the guidelines, claim ignorance and quote precedents.

I know this for a fact, cos we have tried persuasion and coaxing, time and again, to request members to be mindful of the minority, when they put pictures and avatars up, all to no avail.

The guidelines were implemented as a last resort, when all persuasions failed, and the complaints became terribly rampant, everyday

weicong 01-12-2005 11:56 PM

yes i understand. Ok lah. haha just babbling just now. Dunno y suddenly post those stuff also. Anyway in general i think AF has done a good job. :)

He is definitely not very right either.

Today he imposed this regulation tomorrow the imposed another. He expect us log in just to see what new ideas he just invented to impose on us?

To order to be Arofanatics member we have to be on our toes, we must check what new regulations he has for us? We have to act quickly otherwise we get penalty for now following his "orders"

Come on be fair we are all hobbyist here. Don't try rule with an iron fist.

If u think we are unreasonable, do go ahead and find another place that you feel more comfortable with and who does not, in your eyes, rule with an iron fist. If you feel so uncomfortable abt being an arofanatics members, then don't be. Don't force yourself. You have a choice.

There are many many arowana websites and many other aquatic websites too.

Every forum have their own house rules, i dun understand why pple have a problem following rules.

I've had my avatar removed before, but chose to respect the stand of the moderators, and i have adhered to the guidelines since. What is so difficult????

Sunnie 03-06-2006 04:16 PM

I never said you guys from Arofanatics. I am pin pointing you.

If you think you are right? Look at your reputation point. Think again.

In that case, I'll have to take this onto my hand and disable ur account. We are not here for u to undermine and let me just put it across to u, u r a guest on this board and u have outlived ur welcome.

btw my rep points was zapped intentionally by myself.
