Any good place to view and buy African cichild?

Hello all,

As above, appreciate your feedback which lfs or farm specialize in good variety of quality African cichlid. I had visited some lfs including Clementi, NKS, QH, Serangoon but quality not so good & variety very limited.

Thanks in advance.

Homester 25-11-2014 11:37 PM

Cichlids supplies.

Between Nippon Koi and QianHu

Young Man 26-11-2014 02:24 AM

there is still hobbyist out there. LFS still got JZX. what quality you looking for? are you ready to pay a premium for it?
cichlids supplies does stock some but i find the pricing way overboard.

TES 26-11-2014 11:47 AM

Thanks Homester and Young Man.

I'll recce these 2 places.

@Young Man, lol...I don't fancy luxury stuffs, betting on 4D/football...etc. But once in a while in spending on hobby that I really enjoy and to de-stress myself imo is a good investment. In any case, "premium" price is very subjective to each individual not to mention business cost are very much higher now than before so we can't expect prices to remain low. Haha...a small piece of prata kosong also now increased to $1

johannes 26-11-2014 11:49 AM

There (CAS) the kosong prata price is about $3 if you are using that as an analogy. :p

Well noted with thanks.

I'll certainly go around to visit more lfs/farms and compare before deciding.

Cheers

Agreed CAS prices are quite steep. But you can be assured that their cichlids are of true blue nature, not hybrid or line breed. CAS take the effort to vent the gender of the cichlids you need and sometimes let you choose what you need from an entire pond. They priced their cichlids according to size & which gen they are from.. I'm not related nor affliated to CAS. Just sharing this for hobby interest...

canopy 26-11-2014 03:48 PM

not quite la.... but very :p ... Anyway, i find that F1 is more easier to take care as they already acclimatised to current water in singapore so will not likely get the diseases from the WILD

bro depends where that F1 was produced :) sometimes even the so called "WILD CAUGHTS" are too suspicious. cos marking them as wild can price higher

you guys are hilarious!:D

Although long gone but I still missed CF big time for quality, rarity and pricing of fishes. Hobbyists turn LFS keepers are the best!

Brichardi 28-11-2014 08:02 PM

Not sure you referring to which lakes of African cichlid but I can only express my opinion for tanganyikans cichlids in the Singapore market.

Personally, my first 2 choices are ...
1. Get from hobbyists;
2. Pre-order from lfs to bring in whatever I want, whether its from Taiwan, Germany or Africa. NKS & JZX are the current leading 2 lfs that do take pre-order sometimes, order may depend on quantity though. Its like a lottery...sometimes you get very Tok Kong specimens, sometimes so-so. But on average, most are ok.

Then there are lfs that do bring in few varieties occasionally to sell in their shops, like Seaview, QianHu, NKS, JZX, CAS etc. Most of these lfs should have few varieties to chose from with reasonable pricing, except CAS...as their current stock that was leftovers from last year was ....like many bros have mentioned are ....way over-priced. 328 was never included in this list of lfs these couple years as they rarely bring in tangans nowadays except for once-in-a-blue-moon compressiceps or tangan catfish. Personally, NKS or nowadays JZX seem to have most tangans atm.

Pertaining to outlook of fishes, its one men meat is another men poison. Pertaining to prices, its easily comparable....WC fishes of variant n locality compare to WC of the same etc.

These are just my personal opinions. Hope it helps! :)

Went down to take a look. Around 5-6 pieces available. Size a bit small to me. Nice coloration though. Very tempting.

CCT 17-12-2014 04:58 PM

I bought my in QH so far so good. i have a similar zebra tiopia but mine is more grey, female?

Gowling 25-12-2014 10:14 PM

Just saw NKS has a large batch of blue zaires (at least 20 pieces) in one of the outside tanks. Lots of broken fins. Guess they are WC?
Anyone got those?

johannes 26-12-2014 04:22 PM

Yup those are wild caught bro.
Pretty good quality.

foreverfrontosa 27-12-2014 03:30 AM

went there just now and saw em' pretty impressive ;)

Gowling 28-12-2014 03:16 PM

Also saw JZX having a tank of larger blue zaire inside one of the bottom tanks. Never asked about price cos no budget already.
Seems like only the smallest ones were selected for sale.

CCT 28-12-2014 09:02 PM
