Death of my 7+ year old QH RTG

My 7+ year old RTG died on 23 Aug 2016.

When I came home after, it was already belly up, barely alive.

The picture below was taken on the following morning. As you can see, there were red pigment (blood?) on the outer rim of the scales. Other than that, there were no visible signs of injury (i.e scales dropped)

I would like to know what's the possible cause for it's death. Disease? Poisoning? Internal bleeding? (Other than the myth of aro dying in-place of it's master)

Any unusual signs the aro showed days/weeks before it passed on?

How about the water perimeters? Did you do a check after it pass on?

Any new food you fed it recently or change in diet habit?

A few years back my red aro of 6 to 7 years passed on at CNY eve afternoon after I did a wc in the morning.

Ťill now I could only assume it was killed by water poisoning. ..

It had not been eating 4 or 5 days prior to it's death. But It wasn't the first time it stopped eating.

I didn't get a replacement after PH meter broke down few years ago. But PH was between 5 to 6 last checked one or two months ago. Weekly 20% wc on Sunday.

No. I didn't do a check after.

My RTG was on meal worms. Feeder fish occasionally.

The cause could be meal worms. Your aro might be infected from eating an infected worm.

Thanks for the condolences.

No tank mates. I guess I became complacent after all these years.

My tank was running on sole canister for filtration and a submersible pump for circulation.

The pump was for my 3 tiers OHF. Had to decomm the OHF a year ago after bracket on one side came loose. Lucky the tank didn't break or crack when the OHF dropped. :o
