so sorry. was editing the post.

Comments are welcome.

Setup:
1. 1.5 ft tank in airconditioned office. Tank was purchased from a bro here.
2. Plants: windelov fern, java fern, medium size anubias, and some unknown moss.
3. currently just got the fishes. 10 cardinal, 10 black tetras, 3 albino cories and 10 serpae tetras
4. had cycled the tank with some guppy culls with 3 of my self bred g2 male wild guppies. (had gotten g1 from the drain).

Think it's a bit over crowded. What filtration you using?

tuang 14-06-2011 07:24 PM

have only a sponge filter set up.
trying to go as natural as possible.

burntrubber 15-06-2011 09:55 AM

Having a sponge filter will not make it even more natural. You need a better filter for the amount of livestock in there. Yes it is also overstocked for a 1.5

Azroy 15-06-2011 11:06 AM

Pls use proper filtration for your tank. The sponge bubble filter looks abit awful when in "planted" tank. Hope no offence taken, just my opinion

natsuboku 15-06-2011 12:44 PM

Bro, its really too over-populated.. Even if you use a 3L media canister (e.g 2213), you will need to sponges every month. 30 tetras and 3 cories will cause you super high nitrate in the long run. Moreover, you have added too many livestocks at a time. You only cycled with 3 guppies, and you added 33 new fishes. Your filter may not take the bioload, ammonia will shoot up high within 1-2 days, there may not be enough BB to break down your ammonia. Cories will also stir the sand to cause more ammonia spike. Your sponge filter will be overloaded in less than 1 wk.

Just my 2 cents.

gryphon 16-06-2011 11:40 PM

You are likely to experience some dead fishes soon. Way too much bioload for a sponge filter, unless u regularly do water change

Favasfish 17-06-2011 12:27 AM

If the tank is a little bigger, will looks nice and will not looks overcrowded. I agreed with the other bros here, install a proper filtration unit. No offense, just a two cent opinion.

tuang 17-06-2011 10:03 AM

thanks all for the reply. will do up a proper filtration!

natsuboku 17-06-2011 12:10 PM

An additional tips for you, keep your sponge filter in the tank while you run your new filter (either hang on or cannister). Running the two filters concurrently can help to prevent the "new tank syndrome" and allows your tank to be in the "cycled mode". You can remove the sponge filter once your new filter is cycled (preferably after 1.5 months, just to be safe)

Gd luck!

FanAromatic 17-06-2011 05:47 PM

Bro, IMHO, you might want to remove/shift some of the plants, as it covered the lighting of the whole tank and perhaps using OHF as one solution for your filtration system.
As mentioned by the bro here, your tank is over-populated. You will see some dead fishes in a short period.

peanut8787 17-06-2011 07:19 PM

The tank is small and the plant are big. The proportion is somewhere incorrect.

EugenengJL 05-07-2011 04:41 AM

Nice tank la

PKB 05-07-2011 10:52 AM

Sometime less is more. Since your tank is small, just keep smaller fishes, lesser species and you will be surprise that it actually looks better.

tchew 05-07-2011 12:11 PM

Very nice concept. Very unique wood that very much provides the focal point by itself already. Maybe using frogbit as floating plant and narrow java fern tie to the wood or planting some small crypts may improve the outlook.
(if you need frogbits, can collect from me at Lavander FOC)

A tank of this size, using a hang on filter should be sufficient.

Keep us updated on the developments. Thanks.
