Pictures by Kagemaru.

It was love at first sight for my buddy Kagemaru, his dream "killer whale" that he's been looking for. He didnt care that it was a male, that it is a nisai at only 28cm, that it aint gonna grow too big.

From Ofuji Farm, Japan.

Well, let's just hope that the pattern maintain as long as possible. This particular breed of koi, the pattern will change over time.

Female more desirable and expensive. Once the sex is confirmed, the price of the koi will either goes up (female) or goes down (male).

Reason is because female can grow bigger and have more body mass/girth than male. Most koi hobbyists/farmers wants their koi to be as big as possible. Male in general tend to be skinny when big and does not have nice swimming posture, this aspect is very much like judging for ranchu.

Hope this gives you a basic understanding.
