Team news: Confirmed Liverpool line-up v Newcastle
Trent Alexander-Arnold returns from injury as Liverpool make three changes for the Boxing Day clash with Newcastle United.
The full-back is named in defence in place of James Milner, who is ruled out due to a hamstring injury, while Georginio Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri start in midfield. Naby Keita and Fabinho are on the bench. Liverpool: Alisson Alexander-Arnold Lovren Van Dijk Robertson Henderson Wijnaldum Shaqiri Salah Firmino Mane Subs: Mignolet, Clyne, Fabinho, Keita, Sturridge, Lallana, Origi. |
Newcastle’s 4-4-2 is definitely intriguing. The two forward are pushed very high and it also means there’s a two v two match-up in midfield. Newcastle are definitely not sitting back here and are looking to take the game to Liverpool.
Goalllllllllll
Lovrennnnnnnnnnn |
An absolute screamer from Lovren. Wow what a finish
Groans from the stands as Firmino misplaces a pass. Klopp didn’t like that. Turned around and scolded the fans behind him in the Main Stand.
Pace has dropped here. Liverpool’s final ball lacking and they are struggling to create chances.
That’s a brilliant save from Dubravka to keep out Shaqiri’s free-kick. Took a slight deflection off the wall.
Goalllllllllllllll
Salahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh |
How Liverpool needed that. Stupid from Dummett and Salah punished him. The Reds have the breathing space they craved.
First penalty LFC have scored in the PL at Anfield since Milner v Sunderland in Nov 2016
WIjnaldum off
The Dutchman makes way for Fabinho. |
Liverpool cruising here. 2-0 up without really getting out of second gear.
